More Than Words

Actions speak louder than words. I’ve heard it a million times and have said it myself a time or three. It’s a common phrase that’s used all the time and can refer to just about anything.. how you live your life, the way you treat others, how well you do something, how you feel about someone or something, being sorry for something and so on.

I remember saying it to my youngest son several years ago, he was maybe 7 yrs old at the time. I don’t remember now what it was even in context to, but I remember thinking it was so cute when he very seriously asked me, “What do they say Mom?”

Well, we all know that depending on the situation they can say all kinds of things. Sometimes though, they say something to you that is so wonderfully sweet, innocent and loving, yet at the same time so out of the realm of the action itself that it moves you in a truly profound way and you can feel your heart swell. Like the feeling you get when you realize you truly love someone.. where you breathe in and the air expands in your chest and just holds there for a few seconds before it’s released.

That happened to me this morning in the strangest way. I was sitting in the recliner reading, it was around 3:00am, and my 6 year old daughter walked in the room. She had been asleep for several hours and was obviously still more asleep than awake. I sat up in the recliner and said, “Hey sugar, is something wrong?”

She didn’t say a word. She walked over and stood right in front of me with the sweetest smile on her face, put her hands up on my cheeks and started softly rubbing them. She moved her hands all around on my face, touching my eyes and mouth, then pulled my face closer to hers and kissed me right on the tip of my nose. I could feel her love for me, like it was this tangible thing that I could reach out and touch. Then I felt my heart swell, I breathed in and the breath caught in my chest and just lingered there.

I was thinking, “Oh my God, I love this child so much it actually hurts.” Then she turned around, pulled her pants down, sat on my lap and peed all over me.

As crazy as this may sound.. it was honestly one of the sweetest moments of my life.

For S…

lol I’ve had those moments..usually without the shower..

    Was she sleepwalking?

  • Groovy Lady - March 22nd, 2007 - 8:09 am

LOL.. yeah she had to be. I asked her this morning if she remembered it. I’m taking the “Huh?” I got for a reply as a negative on that one.

  • nikki - March 22nd, 2007 - 8:10 am

i almost shot yogurt out of my nose from laughing. it kind of hurt!!!!!

thanks for stopping by my place!

  • Groovy Lady - March 22nd, 2007 - 9:20 am

LMAO! Holy hell, yogurt huh? That does seem like it would kinda hurt and well it’s just gross.

Although its probably not far off in appearance from some of the crap that has come out of my children’s noses over the years that I’ve wiped down my pants leg for lack of a handy tissue.

Thank you for stopping by here as well.. my thoughts are with you and your grandmother. :)

  • Krystal - March 22nd, 2007 - 9:49 am

I just had a completely bipolar moment. I actually teared up in sentiment only to laugh my ass off at the end of it. How bittersweet is that???? To laugh and cry at the same time is something to commend. So, good job Krystal and thanks for the moment GL!!! Very funny!!

  • Groovy Lady - March 22nd, 2007 - 9:59 am

Ahh.. bipolar, I like that description! That’s the same effect it had on me too, all sentimental one moment then laughing my ass off the next.

Then, of course, I quickly had a complete eww moment as it traveled down my legs and into my house shoes.

Thank you for the compliment! And you’re welcome for the moment. :)

  • WAH Opps - March 22nd, 2007 - 10:09 am

Oh wow…reading that affected me the very same way. Tears actually welled up, then I too LMAO!

Sleepwalking…Jason has done that, but he’s never done anything remotely like that.

Wow Groovy Lady…that will be a tender moment that you will never, ever forget! How sweet. :D

    But then, how funny!! LOL

  • Groovy Lady - March 22nd, 2007 - 10:55 am

    @ WAH Opps.. You’re absolutely right! It’s a moment I’ll always remember.

If you have never had it happen, I can honestly tell you, nothing says I love you in quite the same way that getting pissed on in the middle of the night does… actions do indeed speak louder than words.

  • d.chedwick - March 22nd, 2007 - 11:04 am

    You must have porcelain skin.

  • Freebies Etc. - March 22nd, 2007 - 11:16 am

Good God… yet another dose of coffee for my monitor.
LMAO, I suppose it wasn’t as big a dose as your lap and recliner received though.

Thank goodness your chair wasn’t full of cocoa puffs or something at the time.

  • Oh, The Joys - March 22nd, 2007 - 11:59 am

Ha ha! Now that is love.

  • Groovy Lady - March 22nd, 2007 - 12:04 pm

@ Ched… Perhaps so, however it was the first time I was confused for a toilet. I’m not really sure how I feel about the comparison yet.

I do know that having my left boob mistaken for the toilet paper holder still pains me though and probably will for the rest of the day at least.

@ Freebies Etc… For the last several hours I have thanked the female intelligence that exudes from my person. It’s what led me to splurging and going with the leather recliner.

Cleanup was minimal and only a random piece of cereal or two was doused during the unexpected shower.

  • Groovy Lady - March 22nd, 2007 - 12:07 pm

@ Oh, The Joys.. It’s always the little things that really show it… or maybe it’s the wet things.. I’m not sure.

  • Alisha - March 22nd, 2007 - 12:35 pm

These are the types of stories that make me come back here for more!

Did you tell her in the morning what had happened?

  • Groovy Lady - March 22nd, 2007 - 12:45 pm

@ Alisha.. yes I did! And being the 6 year old that she is.. she loved it! LOL, no embarrassment, no I’m sorry.. nothing. Just a huge smile and constant giggles.. that made my heart swell all over again.

Isn’t it amazing how with your children you can love them so much.. so completely, where you feel like you couldn’t possibly love them anymore than you already do.. yet some tiny little thing happens and it grows bigger & bigger?

  • SusieQ - March 22nd, 2007 - 12:49 pm

what a great story! how beautiful!

  • Alisha - March 22nd, 2007 - 1:02 pm

There’s been moments that my son has pushed my buttons, but what toddler doesn’t? But then he’ll be sleeping and he looks so peaceful and I forget all about what he did earlier.

It even amazes me that I can love my unborn baby before he’s even born and he hasn’t even done anything yet!

  • Groovy Lady - March 22nd, 2007 - 1:41 pm

@ SusieQ.. Thank you for the compliment and thanks for stopping by! :)

@ Alisha.. I know what you mean. I’ve even had those days when I looked at mine so sweetly sleeping and nearly cried for remembering the times I got irritated and snapped at them that day.

During all three of my pregnancies, like you, I had the same love feelings. Some people don’t though, which blows my mind, because to me that’s when the best and most meaningful love affairs of my life first began.

  • Mrs. Chicky - March 22nd, 2007 - 2:05 pm

Oh my Gawd! I might pee myself over here, I’m laughing so hard.

  • Groovy Lady - March 22nd, 2007 - 2:14 pm

LOL.. hey there Mrs. Chicky! I must say it gave me quite a chuckle too… and the scent of urine but hey, we won’t go there.

Thanks for stopping by.. you have a great blog btw!

  • jennyhaha - March 22nd, 2007 - 8:36 pm

Haaaaaa ha! Oh my gosh! I did NOT see that coming! :D

  • Queen of the Mayhem - March 22nd, 2007 - 8:43 pm

Okay, that is just funny! Isn’t it just like a child to suck you in with the affection and then p*ss all over you! (hee-hee)

That is so sweet and so gross all at the same time! Only a mom could appreciate this story!

    Great post!

  • Groovy Lady - March 22nd, 2007 - 9:48 pm

@ Jennyhaha.. I didn’t see it coming either, however I did become suspicious when the pants got dropped. I’m blaming my slow reflexes on the time and sleep deprivation.

@ Queen.. There is a touch of irony there for sure, lol. But you’re right, it was sweet and gross all at the same time.. and wet, it was very, very wet. :P

Thank you kindly for the compliment!

  • Ryan - March 22nd, 2007 - 10:21 pm

I knew deep down inside that getting peed on and love had a very close connection. I just couldn’t quite make that connection until now!!!!

That was a very good post. I sort of know what your talking about, minus the face rubbing and nose kissing

  • Smiling Mom - March 22nd, 2007 - 11:20 pm

Oh, I had tears in my eyes and an ache in my heart as you were describing your daughter’s loving moment. Then you had me laughing out loud!!

Thanks! I needed that tonight. I appreciate your coming by my site. I’ll be stopping by yours more often.

  • Tai - March 23rd, 2007 - 12:04 am

Now THERE’S a story to bring up a her wedding!

  • michelle - March 23rd, 2007 - 12:17 am

None of my childless friends could really see the beauty of this story.

I laughed out loud. It was awesome.

  • Groovy Lady - March 23rd, 2007 - 8:22 am

@ Ryan… I never knew there was a connection between love and pee, of course I do now. Breaks my heart to realize what I have been missing all this time. :P

LOL.. Are you saying that you only get the peed on part?

  • Groovy Lady - March 23rd, 2007 - 9:54 am

@ Smiling Mom.. Aww, I’m glad it made you laugh and smile. Thanks so much for stopping by!

@ Tia.. LOL, good idea! I do love a good opportunity to embarrass my children since I think it is there goal in life to do the same to me. This one would be too good to pass up.

  • Groovy Lady - March 23rd, 2007 - 9:55 am

@ Michelle.. No childless people wouldn’t be able to relate I’m afraid, lol. It’s definitely a mom moment. :)

    Thank you for the compliment!

  • CollectivelyCool - March 23rd, 2007 - 1:49 pm

Oh God, Groovy Lady! I’m glad she didn’t do a #2! That my dear would be priceless and YouTube worthy!

  • Groovy Lady - March 23rd, 2007 - 2:09 pm

@ Cool.. Eww GROSS! That would have been a COMPLETELY different type of post.. and it darn sure would not have implied love. Actually, I feel pretty confident in saying that if anyone ever shits on me.. someone is going to get hurt.

  • CollectivelyCool - March 23rd, 2007 - 2:58 pm

Makes you wonder when someone gets call a Turd!

  • Groovy Lady - March 23rd, 2007 - 2:59 pm

If they crap on me they are going to get called much worse than that. LOL.

  • Clinton - March 23rd, 2007 - 4:00 pm

This was once again a good one.. I do believe this can only happen in your family GL ;)

I’m actually starting to look forward to have kids myself.. well besides getting #1 or #2 on me.. ;)

    Cya Soon :)

  • Groovy Lady - March 23rd, 2007 - 4:39 pm

    Hey Clinton! How goes it?

Surely I’m not the only mom to have been peed on. I bet there are tons and tons of us!

Btw.. I look forward to you having kids too, lol. I seem to recall a few conversations that deserve some payback. ;)
