Remember

My younger brother is a Gunnery Sergeant in the USMC. He is stationed in Cherry Point, NC, where he lives with his wife and two young children. He has already served two tours of duty in Iraq and one during Desert Storm. We just received word yesterday that he may once again be deployed to Iraq.

It made me think of an email I received the other day from an acquaintance. It had a link to a video on YouTube that just really hit home with me. Many of you may have seen this already, however, to me it’s the kind of thing could and should be viewed over and over again.

Regardless of where you stand.. everyone NEEDS to remember…

It’s just not a funny story day, is it?

  • Smiling Mom - April 15th, 2007 - 4:24 pm

I’m a blubbery mess! What is the name of that video? I’d like to post it too. My brother, Naval Officer, is stationed at Guatanamo Bay right now. :-) Thanks for that!

  • tysgirl - April 15th, 2007 - 5:20 pm

I’m still blog crushing on you even though you made me cry.

Thanks for the wake up call!

  • Groovy Lady - April 15th, 2007 - 5:21 pm

@ Cathy.. Uh oh, did you post a sad one too? On my way there now to see for myself.

@ Smiling Mom.. I wonder if it hits those of us with close family there harder than others? I was a blubbery mess too. I hope your brother gets to come home soon. :)

The name of it is Remember Me, the link is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ervaMPt4Ha0 and the code to embed it on your site is located on the right column of that page.

@ tysgirl.. Aww, I’m sorry it made you cry, but glad you appreciated it.

LOL, that crush is mutual sugar! ;)

Just not fair. I’m not an emotional sort. And this is twice in one week.

I was waiting for my baggage in the airport on Wednesday.

Slowly, softly, a sound came towards me. Not raucous. Didn’t know what awefilled handclapping sounded like, until rounding the corner came a girl with a red vest and a flag striding like a drum major. She was with the USO and was followed two by two by people in fatigues. Asian, hispanic, black, white. Might have been a muslim or two. Some smiled, happy or embarrassed. Some stoic.

They all had rucksacks. They were shipping out.

I didn’t applaud, I wanted to, but I just teared. And you just made me do it again. Thanks.

I have the exact same video saved in my inbox. I plan to post it next week. I cried my eyes out when I watched it! It is truly amazing the sacrifice so few have to make for the good of so many!

I pray God blesses your brother and brings him home safely!

If he does go….let me know his address and my class can write to his squadron…..we LOVE doing things like that!

  • Wendy - April 15th, 2007 - 7:06 pm

I never will understand why anyone is angry with the military. They are doing the dirty work.

I will pray your brother comes home safe.

I always want to say thanks whenever we see someone in the military, thankfully my husband has the guts to actually do it.

Thanks for posting it. It gave me something to think about.

  • I Eat snowman Poop - April 15th, 2007 - 7:14 pm

I have seen this before. It’s very good.

  • Janet a.k.a Wonder Mom - April 15th, 2007 - 7:52 pm

I’m sure it is a touching video but honestly, I can not watch it. I’m sure it will make me bawl like the little baby I am these days.

I send your bother my love. And please keep us posted on his safety and arrival home if he does get deployed!

  • rick - April 15th, 2007 - 8:06 pm

Thanks for the post, and Blessings to your brother! Thanks for the link I just noticed and returned the favor with enthusiasm!

  • WAH Opps - April 15th, 2007 - 9:24 pm

GL…That is a very touching video and it does make you think. Thanks for sharing it. I’ll say a big prayer for your brother. ;)

  • Smiling Mom - April 15th, 2007 - 9:59 pm

Thank you very much Groovy Lady. I’ll go check it out now. I do appreciate the men and woman a great deal…even though I don’t agree with every decision we’re making.

  • Krystal - April 16th, 2007 - 10:41 am

I get a lot of these types of videos and pics in my inbox, however nothing has touched me like this one. It was so beautiful. I have a brother-in-law in the Army, he’s a Stryker. He is set to be deployed to Iraq anytime now. He is on alert. I am not that close to him but I feel for him and wish for his safe return as well as all of our service men and women. The military should be held in the highest regard. I’m getting ready to set up my own blog and this will be in my very first post! Thanks GL, it is amazing!

  • DeeJay - April 16th, 2007 - 11:19 am

    Well said.

  • Groovy Lady - April 16th, 2007 - 7:22 pm

@ Dave.. Sorry for getting you melancholy again.. but I bet the sight you saw at the airport had a much bigger impact on you.. I’m glad I didn’t see that.

@ Queen.. Thank you, what a sweet offer! I’m sure he would love that. I’m hoping like hell ya’ll don’t get to though.

@ Wendy.. I don’t understand people for getting angry with them either. They are doing a job that we may not agree with all the time, but at other times.. what would we do without them. I think anyone that condemns them personally for it.. just sucks.

  • Groovy Lady - April 16th, 2007 - 7:25 pm

@ Snowman.. I think it’s good too, even though it makes me sad. :)

@ Janet.. Girl I should have sent you a message telling you not to even come by while it was up. You have enough going on right now. I hope things settle into a manageable place for you soon. I’ll be keeping you in my thoughts. :)

@ Rick.. Thank you for the well wishes and for the link! You rock.. just like an honorary Groovy Lady should.

  • Groovy Lady - April 16th, 2007 - 7:28 pm

    @ WAH Opps… Thank you Tam! :)

@ Krystal.. I agree with you 100%. I hope for the safest journey for you brother-in-law.

@ Smiling Mom.. You are very welcome. :)

@ Dee Jay.. Indeed it was!

  • WAH Opps - April 16th, 2007 - 10:29 pm

You’re most welcome GL…keep us posted how things go with your brother. ;)
